Moonlight is highkey overrated i don't think so. *shrugs* the cinematography and direction was fantastic. the way the story we structured, with three different moments in chirons life, each where he faced different struggles with identity, was amazing. it's very honest and true to its characters. nothing felt fake. it was a simple, yet incredibly moving story imo, and sometimes that's all you need.

Agreed with all of the points that you made. The 3rd act is what really brings it down for me though. I don't think it was nearly as strong as the first two.

I don't think it was nearly as strong as the first two. the third act was definitely not the strongest of the bunch, i'll agree with you there. i still enjoyed how it ended though. it wasn't conclusive, but it was hopeful. after a life of so much sh*t thrown at him, it was nice to see him finally find himself, come to the realization after so many years of not accepting himself and pushing the idea of being gay away for so long. like it just shows you that some people live their whole lives as a lie because of their orientation. to be black and gay, and to grow up in that environment, it's a lot harder than you'd think.. even still in 2017. I'm sure you know all of this haha I just liked the subject material and how most of it was handled

Leo was for sure better than Fassbender. Trashley's nickname doesn't only refer to her drinking habits they also now refer to her movie taste tbh

Saw all the best picture nominees and La La Land, Moonlight, Arrival in that order imo
Emma doesn't deserve the Oscar tho. Yeah she had to be a triple threat, but her singing is just alright and her dancing was pretty bad. So far Natalie Portman def deserves it.

i feel like there could be a musical about anything and it be up for an Oscar. yet there are tons of musicals that don't get any recognition.. they aren't super common in awards shows. like what about 2015's straight outta compton and love & mercy. or 2014's get on up, jersey boys, and the last five years. even last year's sing street, which is a fantastic movie got shunned from the oscars this year (got nominated at the GG though) the reason movie's like la la land, les mis, chicago, etc are because of star power, direction, and the triple threat that usually comes in musicals (acting, singing, and dancing). It is very hard to master all three of those. Also being based on world-renowned musicals also helps, but la la land didn't have that. Like just to name a few things the stars did: Ryan Gosling had to learn how to play the piano in 3 months, him and Emma Stone had to perfect a tap dance routine that was all done in one shot, emma had to learn her song "audition" and do it one take as well, and they had to act their asses off to form chemistry between the two of them and tell a good story, which they did. just my opinion on the matter, though

Heard good things about it though. I'm just not into musical's so I won't bother watching it.

La la land was okay to me
Like compared to les mis, the story and acting was WAY better in les mis. La la land almost felt like a Disney movie to me and I was totally bored for the first half
