People will tell other people what their role is but that's actually supposed to happen in this game. telling people what your role is could help you or mess your game up. |

Idk I just don't understand it. I don't think people would do it lol. If people got on for like 2 hours like Alaina was saying that would be alright but... |

I realize it was cancelled but if it's ever in cancelled hit me up.
And I dunno, maybe I can explain/sell mafia? The nominations and voting in secret is different than what I've played but basically:
Mafia is about two sides (or more!) Trying to destroy the other. The good guys are more plentiful. They usually comprise about 70-75% of the game. However, each good guy only knows what they are. No one else knows for sure whether someone is good or bad. They just have to try to do what's best for their side as an individual. That means trying to vote for people they don't think are good.
The bad guys, the Mafia, know who each other are, so they know who is good and who is bad. The problem is that they are very very outnumbered to start. Their goal is to gain majority. That means they don't want to lose their numbers. They want the good guys to kill each other.
The Mafia can also kill someone during each night phase. No one will know who it was that did the killing.
There are other roles and mechanics and sometimes factions that can complicate things, but that's the basics.
In a basic game with 11 people:
8 town
3 mafia
The 8 town have a huge majority, but each of the 8 only knows one person on their team: themselves. So to them, it's 1 town and 10 mysteries.
The Mafia know who the other mafia are and can communicate together. They know what team everyone is on, and they need to get town to attack town.
DAY 1:
No one knows what they're doing and eventually the least popular person gets lynched just cuz. That person turns out to be town.

Night 1:
The Mafia decide to take out a very vocal town person because they seem to be onto something
9 players
6 town
3 mafia
Day 2:
A mafia member starts getting some suspicion. People start to vote that person. Another mafia member steps in and makes a case against a different person. People decide to vote that person instead of the Mafia member, because they don't realize they were on the right track.
8 players
5 town
3 mafia
Night 2:
The Mafia have now reached a very good position. They decide to take out the main person who pushed against their member on day 2 do they won't be around to try it again
7 players
4 town
3 mafia
Day 3:
Things are really bad for the town, and really good for the Mafia. If the town do not vote correctly against a mafia member on this phase, the number becomes 3-3 and the Mafia win with their successful kill. This is a Lynch or lose situation for town.
A lot of arguments start flying. Eventually, someone brings up that the dead person may have been killed for pushing for the first target on day 2. They decide to vote for that person. The first mafia member falls.
6 players
4 town
2 mafia
Night 3
Things are a bit worse for the Mafia now, but they are still doing alright. They decide to kill someone who just follows along and doesn't say much, because they don't want to give away what they are thinking.
5 players
3 town
2 mafia
Day 4
Things are still do or die for town, so they decide they need to really think. Because the Mafia's dead member's role was revealed on death, and thus everyone knows they were mafia, their actions and the reactions to them are scrutinized. Different members of the town remember the way that someone (the mafia teammate) defended them on day 2. Finally someone pushes for that person to be voted against. Everyone decides to do that. Another mafia member falls.
4 players
3 town
1 mafia
Night 4
The last member of the Mafia was the one who pushed for the other mafia member to be voted. They both realized that that was what was going to happen, do they decided to make it happen first. The final mafia member decides to vote for the smartest remaining town player.
Day 5
3 players
2 town
1 mafia
This is the ultimate win or lose scenario. This is the endgame. Voting foolishly or early at this point will lead to a loss. The two town who are left are the definition of middle of the road. Neither has been the most vocal. Neither has been the smartest. Two each of them, they see the other as suspicious for not putting themselves out there more, while they see the other person (the final Mafioso) as having done a lot and having taken out a member of the Mafia.
Since Player A knows that they are town, and believes that Player C is probably not mafia, they vote against Player B. Player C gleefully jumps on the vote, and the two vote out Player B.
Player B was town.
2 players
1 mafia
1 town
Because the Mafia would kill the final remaining town on Night 5, the end is met and the Mafia win. Because it's a team game, the dead mafia members win, too. All town still lose, regardless of how long they lasted.
I can't believe I just wrote this entire thing to sell people on a cancelled game. I have a problem.
