The date is June 1st, 1954. The once vibrant and lively town of Hoboken NJ has been desecrated into a former shell of itself over the course of a few weeks. One after one, the townsfolk are systematically turning up dead. The town is divided, but the problem is no one knows who the killers are. With only few remaining alive, the citizens of Hoboken have decided to put a stop to the Mafia's reign of terror the best way they know how.. with democracy and diplomacy. Will you help the town rid itself of the mafia plague? Or will you join the mafia, and help eradicate the innocent?
This is the official game reveal/casting thread for the first installment of Mafia on Entertaining Reality. It will be hosted by both Kenny and Myself (James). The game of mafia is unlike any ORG that you've ever seen played on ER. Unlike most games, there will be NO comps in Mafia. That's right, it is 100% strategic and social. Signups will be on this thread, if you post you will receive a role! The game should take no longer than a few weeks, depending on how many people sign up. It can sustain anywhere from 10-20 people so feel free to get your friends to join too!
What is Mafia?
For those who are unaware here is a quick run down of Mafia. Mafia is an ORG where the players are split into two "teams", the Town and the Mafia. Here's the catch, the only person who will know your role is you! (And the hosts obviously). You can tell other people your role if you'd like, or you can keep it a secret forever! The goal is simple, if you are a member of the "Town" you will try and vote to lynch the members of the Mafia during the day phase of the game. This will be done through a deliberation phase. During the "day" (1 48 hour period) you will be discussing who you think should be nominated to be lynched by the town. You may accuse anyone you wish, and if you can get a "2nd" and a "3rd" person to agree with the accusation, the person will go straight to the vote. If the person receives a majority of the towns votes, they will be killed and out of the game. If they do not receive a majority of the votes, the day phase will end and no one will have died. You may only attempt to lynch one person a day, so use your chance wisely! After the "day" phase comes the "night" phase. During the night the Mafia will communicate with each other and vote on who they wish to kill during the night. The "night" phase will last 24 hours. There are a few special roles that will also be able to do things during the night, and that will be covered later on. During the "night" the members of the "Town" will not be participating. The Mafia however will participate in both the "day" discussion as well as the "night" discussion, to hold the illusion that they are members of the town. If the Mafia can successfully eliminate every member of the town, they will win the game. Here's the catch, you personally can only be declared a winner if you're alive at the end of the game and your role wins. The general timeline will be a full day+night cycles will take 72 hours. This may be amended due to weekends/holidays and such but that should be the general flow.
There will be a game thread where all events will be posted. Who dies during what parts of the game as well as a list of who is living will be posted in the game thread. There will be a poll attached to see whether or not "Day" discussion will be held on Discord or on the game thread itself!
A couple rules:
1) Please do not share your role if you're dead. Roles will NOT be revealed once someone dies, so the only way to find out someones role is to coerce it out of them before they die!
2) Please be active. This game thrives on people being active in discussions. It can quickly go south if people don't participate.
3) NO SCREENSHOTS/keep PM discussion about the game to a minimum. During the day you are all in the townhall for the majority of the day, and during the night the townsfolk are all in their homes trying to stay safe. Screenshots (especially those of your role reveal) really ruin the spirit of the game lol.
4) Ask questions if you don't understand!
5) Most of all, have fun!
