Moving forward with my rankings to one of my favorite Pre-All Stars season. Let me know if you disagree/agree with most of my opinions or not!
And my Survivor Marquesas rewatch is over, and I can reconfirm my unpopular opinion that out of the first 4 seasons, Marquesas is the best. Yeah, agree with me if you want... I don't even know why I think it's the best. I sort of like the contestants better this season, but a lot of them weren't really looked into. We don't know a lot about a lot of them. I think I liked this one because there was still drama and arguments, but it didn't feel ridiculous. Yeah... anyways, enough about that... onto the cast themselves.
16. Zoe Zanidakis (8th Place) Up until her boot episode where she randomly decided she didn’t like Tammy, she didn’t really do a whole lot. Out of everyone in the Rotu 4, she seemed like the snarkiest and b*tchiest of them all, and she tried to make it sound like she wasn’t in the alliance. Didn’t play a good game, and didn’t have a likeable personality either.
15. Hunter Ellis (14th Place) I felt like Hunter is one of those leaders who thinks that he was strong, and therefore everybody must be as strong as he is. If I was on the beach with this guy, he would drive me crazy. I’m sure we don’t actually see the fully laziness of the tribe, but from what it looked like, the tribe would work, take a little rest, and Hunter would get upset over that little rest. And honestly, no clue why Jeff wants to bring this guy back so bad… actually I take that back. It’s Jeff Probst… it’s understandable.
14. John Carroll (9th Place) I liked John a lot more in the earlier episodes than I did later. When he wasn’t a control freak, he was alright… still not great, but not terrible. Then he took control of the game and he just got annoying. I guess it’s good that he was playing the game… but the way he played it was not entertaining in my opinion.
13. Sarah Jones (13th Place) I normally don’t have a problem with people just because others call them lazy, because most of the time it just seems like alpha males wanting everyone to be able to do as much as them. But in Sarah’s case, it was just so obvious that she was lazy. From the boat ride in, she literally lay down and did nothing useful, and once she got on the beach she continued her lazy streak. Her personality was sub-par too, no real key moments other than the relationship with Rob.
12. Peter Harkey (16th Place) I definitely do not think Survivor was the right place for this guy. The socials aspect of the game just wasn’t for him. It felt weird watching him too… like with most contestants there’s some sort of connection between them and the audience, and with Peter I didn’t feel like there was anything to connect to. He was just weird… and that’s about it for him.
11. Patricia Jackson (15th Place) The mother figure role… not a role that should be used on Survivor. Although she seemed like a sweet lady, she came off too abrasive and too strong. She has good qualities about her, and was semi-likeable, but she really just screwed herself over by trying too hard to be the mother of the tribe.
10. Robert DeCanio (6th Place) Only thing that really stand out is him getting cut on the foot. Don’t even remember what he got cut by. Other than that, he was just another member of the Rotu 4. Seemed like he was a nice guy, but he never really did much.
9. Gabriel Cade (12th Place) Yes, the game is a social experiment of 16 people living together… but the whole point is to see how they act towards one each other when they’re actually fighting for the million dollar prize. It’s not The Real World. He wasn’t there to play the game, but he seemed to be well liked by his tribe. I feel like he could have gone far if he actually was there to win.
8. Gina Crews (11th Place) Honestly no real opinion on her. I neither liked her nor disliked her. She just seemed bland, and that’s about it.
7. Sean Rector (5th Place) Sometimes I liked Sean and sometimes I found him annoying. The fact that everything always went back to God was irritating at times, but at the same time you could tell that Sean was a nice guy and pretty laid back. He kept bringing the race card into it… and honestly, I don’t think anyone else was thinking anything about the two African-American’s except for the times that Sean would bring it up.
6. Tammy Leitner (7th Place) I liked Tammy just because although she was in a solid alliance that she thought was going to get her to the end, she still tried to be nice to other people by bring them food and talking to them. She seemed to be the only one in that alliance (other than maybe The General) trying to actually socialize with people outside of the alliance. Other than that, not much to say about her…
5. Paschal English (4th Place) He was the nice old guy, but he didn’t have an interesting story. All he had was the Neleh/Paschal ongoing story and that’s about it. I liked him at Sean’s boot tribal where he called out Sean in a not so calm manner. That was entertaining. I liked Paschal, but I can’t say much about him because he wasn’t shown that much.
4. Neleh Dennis (2nd Place) I’ve heard people say that Neleh isn’t the sweetheart of the season because she turned evil for a few episodes… I did not see that at all. No clue how people saw her as evil. I’ll admit, the mint moment was almost like rubbing the reward in people’s face, but I don’t think she realized it was coming off that way. She was interesting to watch, and although like Paschal she didn’t have the most interesting story, she reminded me of the Colleen/Elizabeth character of the season.
3. Vecepia Towery (Winner) And once again my opinion differs from majority of Survivor watchers here. Most say Vecepia was a terrible winner… and while I’ll admit strategy wise and screen time wise she’s probably the worst, personality wise I really liked Vecepia. Most of the time she looked like she was just trying to have a good time out there as much as possible, but she still had the strategy going on where she actually tried to get to know everyone she was playing with, which is a HUGE part of the game. She had the social aspect down, and in my opinion, she had a likeable personality. A little too much religion getting brought in from her, but not nearly as much as Sean.
2. Rob Mariano (10th Place) I think this is the only season where I actually liked Rob. Sure he had the same attitude, and cockiness about him… but the situation was different. He was a first time player, and he was always in a crappy position. He was never really in control of the game, and that’s one thing that makes Rob a great character in Marquesas, but unbearable in his other 3 seasons.
1. Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien (3rd Place) A very entertaining character. Kind of crazy, but definitely a good sort of crazy that made her fun to watch. Started off being the outsider on her tribe, and somehow managed to make it all the way to the final 3. That shows she played the game well.

I know this was Rob Mariano's original season but for the life of me I do not remember him on this season! I mean granted I haven't watched this season since it aired but whenever a previous player comes back, I at least remember something about them from their season but for him... I don't remember him on this season.

The only things I remember from this season are the nasty raw fish they ate and the rock drawing tie where Pascal went home.
Dara, I actually remember Boston Rob being the last member voted out before jury, I think. And there was another Rob.

Watching this season for the first time after seeing almost all of Boston Rob's subsequent seasons makes me love him again. I shall forever be a Boston Rob fanboy.

In 2012, Gabriel applied again for Survivor and the cast production of the show was interested in his application tape, but was not accepted when, during the interview, they realized that he had already participated.

Yeah I definitely like Rob this season now that I'm rewatching it. Probably the only season where I like him. Before he got cocky and annoying and before Jeff was up his a** completely.

He was cocky here too, it just worked a lot better. Eh not really. Compared to his other three seasons, he's not nearly as bad.

I liked him every season ? I only like Rob when he's not in total control like Marquesas and HvV. All Stars and RI where he had power was really tough to watch for me.

I think she kinda takes time to get going ad a character so I can kinda agree. Did you just finish the John Carroll boot episode btw?
