Finally saw Moonlight. Thought it was good, but didn't totally love it tbh
Honestly wasn't blown away by any of the oscar noms that I've seen but if I had to choose my favourite it would be Manchester by the Sea mostly because it caused the most emotions for me.

i don't think so. *shrugs* the cinematography and direction was fantastic. the way the story we structured, with three different moments in chirons life, each where he faced different struggles with identity, was amazing. it's very honest and true to its characters. nothing felt fake. it was a simple, yet incredibly moving story imo, and sometimes that's all you need. Agreed with all of the points that you made. The 3rd act is what really brings it down for me though. I don't think it was nearly as strong as the first two. I agree with this I may have missed it but they didn't show Mahershalas character in the third act which kinda killed it for me. His character was my favourite and I enjoyed the relationship those two had and was actually hoping to see it flourish more than it did. That may not be the most realistic version of events but tbh I dont watch fiction movies for reality

BEST PICTURE La La Land Moonlight Arrival Manchester by the Sea Lion Fences Hidden Figures Hell or High Water Hacksaw Ridge
BEST DIRECTOR Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) Damien Chazelle (La La Land) Kenneth Lonergan (Manchester by the Sea) Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) Mel Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge)
BEST ACTOR Denzel Washington (Fences) Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea) Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) Ryan Gosling (La La Land) Viggo Mortenson (Captain Fantastic)
BEST ACTRESS Natalie Portman (Jackie) Emma Stone (La La Land) Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins) Ruth Negga (Loving) Isabelle Huppert (Elle)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea) Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals) Dev Patel (Lion) Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Viola Davis (Fences) Naomie Harris (Moonlight) Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea) Nicole Kidman (Lion) Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures)
PRODUCTION DESIGN Jess Gonchor (Hail Caesar!) David Wasco (La La Land) Stuart Craig (Fantastic Beasts) Guy Hendrix Dyas (Passengers) Patrice Vermette (Arrival)
Bolded are the ones I predict will win, they're listed best to worst in my opinion.
Also I think 20th Century Women (and Annette Bening) and Nocturnal Animals were overlooked for Best Picture, and possibly also The Lobster which was really good. Hacksaw Ridge and Hell or High Water don't really have any business being nominated tbh, though I did enjoy both.

Wait lmao I think we're actually exactly on the same page. Hope you're right about Lucas Hedges. Dude was really good and I liked Mahershala Ali a lot but he just wasn't part of the movie enough to win over Lucas Hedges imo

I swear this Oscars is going to go over the time allotted, lol. That took up time to bring her out. And I didn't think OJ Made in America would win honestly, but I guess I was wrong.
