We never had a thread for this season? It's one of the best of the pre-All Stars seasons.

Here are my rankings for Australian Outback that I posted on a different site a few months ago after rewatching the season. Interested to see other peoples opinions, and maybe post your own rankings?
Just finished re watching this one, and I'll be honest... it's not as great a season in my opinion as most people make it seem. The pre merge stage was fairly boring, and the post merge was just alright. You'll see in my rankings that I didn't find many of the characters interesting enough to actually make the season entertaining, and that's why I think I didn't enjoy this season as much as Borneo. These of course are just my opinions, feel free to disagree lol.
16. Keith Famie (3rd Place) I really did not like this guy. He had this attitude about him where he seemed important because he was a cook, and if anyone insulted his cooking he would get offended and would need to defend his reasoning behind cooking things the way he did. Probably wouldn't have been as bad if he didn't last so long.
15. Mitchell Olson (13th Place) Boring. Nothing really redeeming about him. Added nothing.
14. Kel Gleason (15th Place) Honestly, no opinion at all on this guy. Still curious whether he was actually chewing on jerky or not so if anyone has a link to an article that updates on that let me know. Other than that he did nothing in the game.
13. Nick Brown (7th Place) Lots of boring people this season, Nick is no exception. Higher than Mitchell and Kel because he lasted longer and we saw him more than the other two… still, nothing really memorable.
12. Kimmi Kappenberg (12th Place) During my first watch of Australian Outback I actually liked Kimmi and sympathized with her… but after a rewatch I realized that she was pretty annoying, and not just because of the whole chicken situation. The first episode where she was obnoxious in the shelter at night makes everything clear why Alicia hated her.
11. Amber Brkich (6th Place) She was boring to a certain extent. She had her friendship with Jerri which gets her a bit higher, and the fact that her elimination came completely out of nowhere (unless I just missed something). She's more memorable than some of the other boring players, but she still didn't have an interesting personality.
10. Debb Eaton (16th Place) Not very entertaining at all, and if I have any opinion on her it's leadings towards the annoyance side. Criticized Skupin for stepping up and being the leader because she thought they didn't need any leader, and yet during the hike to camp she was calling the shots and being bossy. True irony there and she was pretty obnoxious around camp too.
9. Maralyn "Mad Dog" Hershey (14th Place) She has the Rudy vibe of grumpy old person, but she was actually pretty nice. Her views on the Kel situation showed that. She was a pretty boring character in terms of what she added, but I liked her better than the people above her.
8. Jeff Varner (10th Place) Once again not very memorable, except the fact that the only reason he got voted out was because of his past vote… which later led to the downfall of Kucha.
7. Michael Skupin (11th Place) I didn't like Michael very much up until his evacuation episode. He seemed like he was trying way too hard to be an asset on Kucha, and worked way harder than he had to. The fact that he was the first person to ever be evacuated makes him sort of a legend, and the fact that if it didn't happen we'd probably have a very different game as Kucha would have been up in numbers at the merge.
6. Colby Donaldson (2nd Place) I don't think Colby is nearly as great as reputation makes him seem. If it wasn't for the fact that he won so many challenges, he wouldn't be very interesting. His relationship with Jerri was probably the most interesting thing about him, and that didn't last long. I'll admit he was much better in Heroes VS Villains, but if we're basing this only season 2, he was just alright… nothing great.
5. Tina Wesson (Winner) Tina was the nice, sweet, old lady that you would root for just because of her accent and innocence. I know I've said it a lot in my rankings, I blame it mostly on this being an earlier season… but she honestly was not that interesting along with a lot of the people this season. I know a lot of people liked her, and I liked her too… but she didn't have the personality to leave a great impression. It's like… yeah I rooted for her, but is she really iconic in any way? What will I remember about her after the game? Like most people this season… she was just alright.
4. Rodger Bingham (5th Place) I really liked the duo of Elisabeth and Rodger, and if roles were reversed and Kucha had the numbers coming into the merge, I feel like they would have been the final 2. Obviously just my opinion, and we'll never actually know… but those 2 were so close that I couldn't imagine them turning on each other, and they wouldn't really be threats like Alicia and Jeff would have. Would have been a great final 2.
3. Alicia Calaway (9th Place) During the first watch of the show, I hated Alicia because I liked Kimmi and thought Alicia was way to harsh… but re watching a few years later, I really liked Alicia and thought she could have been a great player if she lasted longer. She had strength, and she wasn't going to let people walk all over her. The Kimmi fight was entertaining, especially the finger in Kimmi's face.
2. Elisabeth Filarski (4th Place) Elisabeth was the Colleen of the season. I'll be honest, she wasn't as interesting as Colleen was, because while Colleen was extremely nice and sweet, she had a snarky, sarcastic side to her. You could tell Elisabeth sort of had some strategy going on by trying to flip some Ogakor's, but after that she kind of just laid down and accepted her fate. Bonus points for last surviving Kucha.
1. Jerri Manthey (8th Place) One of the main reasons I liked this season… it wasn't pure Pagonging. Once Jerri left, it wasn't 100% clear how the end game would go. A lot of people hated Jerri while the season was airing because she was an extreme villain, but while watching I didn't understand. She didn't do anything TOO drastic. I guess it's just because she was the first villain of Survivor and they didn't have anything to compare her to, but now we have people like Abi Maria who are 10x worse. Jerri made this season entertaining, especially with her rivalry with Keith, and "dysfunctional relationship" with Colby.

We never had a thread for this season? It's one of the best of the pre-All Stars seasons. I disagree, I didn't enjoy this season very much for some reason. I actually enjoyed some more hated seasons by most fans over this (Marquesas being one of them). The cast just didn't really appeal to me, and I found most of them to be boring.

About Alicia. I liked her when watching the season and was completely on her side during the fight with Kimmi, because Kimmi annoyed the snot out of me, plus Alicia was a tough girl who would never let any guy intimidate her. It wasn't until Jenna's quit episode on All Stars that I started to dislike her after her mini rant about how Jenna was selfish and a bad daughter for agreeing to go on All Stars in the first place, plus a few other wasted opportunities to try and get herself to the final 2, but we'll save my rant on her for when the All Stars ranking gets underway.

Yeah the Jenna thing was pretty bad and uncomfortable. I'm sure she didn't mean it the way she made it sound, but it did come out really badly.

Mitchell's boot episode to Jeff's were a really good string of episodes. I'm rewatching this season now, but looking back on my first watch (granted I didn't pay much attention), I didn't really think that highly of this season. But now it's really good.

I'm starting my rewatch on this season so I can listen to the Evolution of Survivor in sync with when I finish a season and I was slowly forgetting the amazingness of Jerri Manthey since my most recent memory of her was HvV, but I'm falling in love with her all over again. Her early feud with Keith is amazing.
Also even less excited to see Kimmi after seeing her again. I'm just happy she's from season 2 so I can see how she's changed.

Rewatching Australia made me more excited to see Kimmi, for the exact same reason as you. To see how she's changed. I didn't like this season that much. The pre-merge is good, but the post-merge drags and I'm not a fan of natural disasters completely ruining people's spirits.

They need to use the dramatic music they used in these first few seasons more in the modern seasons. It's like you're watching a drama film or something. Like the music after Skupin got evacuated.

Really like this season. I don't think I'd have it top 5 due to a boring postmerge a bit, but still great premerge and has probably the most iconic cast to date with Jerri, Colby, Tina, Elisabeth, and Skupin.

I was listening to this chapter of TEOS, and Rob hit the nail right on the head They carried over the success from Borneo and tried to milk as much out of this season as they could. 42 days, final 3 finale, like 15 recap episodes (not really). It all makes sense.

I always wonder around what time did survivor see a big drop in viewers and being seen as huge celebrities or was it a gradual decline.

You don't hear about any of the Vanuatu or Palau people being on talk shows and sh*t.

I think Stephanie was a huge celebrity during Palau though.

I like how cool Jeff tries to act when he's around Colby. Like bruh, be a little less obvious that you're in love with him.

This show was AMAZING when it first aired. Looking back on it though, a re-watch is kind of boring* if you're already conditioned for how other Survivor seasons are. But it's also amazing how different the post-merge game is to the pre-merge game. Like how the episodes are and stuff. The flood episode was actually really intense and intriguing. Season two was my favorite for a while until Pearl Islands came out. I actually miss the old school editing.
I also really miss challenges like this:
That was like my favorite sh*t ever when I was a teenager, and ever since I watched that I wanted to go cliff jumping (which I've done now, as an adult)
*towards the very end
